Introduction
to Genealogy and Family History
This class is designed
for those new to family history research, or those with some
experience who may wish to refresh their basic research skills.
Learn tips for successful research, how to find information in
home sources, organize and record data on charts and forms, where
to find additional records in local and national repositories, how
to search online databases, and learn to document and evaluate
data that is discovered. The use of computers, the Internet, and
genealogical and other software programs in your research will
also be discussed.
Topics covered per each
two hour class:
Session One:
Introduction, Getting Started, Developing a Research Plan, Home
Sources, Interviewing Family Members, Completing Genealogical
Forms and Charts, Documenting Your Research
Session Two:
Primary vs. Secondary sources, Original records, Maintaining
Research logs, Genealogical Research facilities, Internet
Databases.
Session Three:
Census Records
Field Trip to
California History & Genealogy Room, Fresno Central Library
Session Four:
Compiled Sources, Vital Records
Session Five:
Cemetery & Mortuary Records, Immigration Records
Session Six:
Naturalization, Continuing Genealogical Education

How to Research
the History of Your House

Whether you’re an owner who plans
to sell your older home, a realtor listing an historic house or
someone just curious to discover your home’s history, this
workshop is for you! In this current market, knowing the history
of your home can help entice buyers. This workshop will teach you
how to research your house’s history. We will discuss finding and
chaining deeds, researching in census records, city directories,
atlases, newspapers and biographies. You’ll learn how to assemble
the information in a final report. This talk is designed for both
beginners and those who have some research experience.
